Phil has been a part of Foothills School Division since 1969 when his family first moved to High River. He graduated from Senator Riley High School before attending Camrose Lutheran College (Augustana - UofA) and the University of Calgary to complete his Bachelor of Education degree. Since then, Phil has been on staff at Blackie School for a total of 17 years as a teacher, a vice principal, and finally as the principal. During that time, Phil completed a Master of Arts in Leadership and Administration from Gonzaga University. From Blackie, Phil became Principal of Ecole Senator Riley Middle School in High River before finishing his career as both the Principal of Cayley School and Principal of the division’s three colony schools. During the 28 years that Phil has been an educator in Foothills School Division, all five of his children and two of his grandchildren have been students in FSD. As well, Phil’s wife, Jacquie, and daughter, Lyndsi, are both educators in the division. Finally, in addition to his local trustee duties and responsibilities, Phil is currently a Director on the Executive of the Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards – a provincial organization that represents and advocates for over forty rural school boards across the province. As Trustee for Ward 5, Phil is committed to serving the community in which he lives, the Division, and rural school boards throughout the province in an ongoing effort to help place education at the centre of flourishing communities.
