Foothills Emergency Services Program

26-FESP

Foothills School Division is partnered with Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools (CTR),  the Town of High River, and the High River Fire Hall to offer a career exploratory program in the fire and emergency services: the Foothills Emergency Services Program (FESP). Students who are interested in emergency service careers are encouraged to explore this opportunity.

Students can gain up to 10 High School credits and relevant certifications leading to a variety of emergency health service occupations.  Training is provided by members of the High River Fire and Rescue Team and other experts in the High River area.

Cadets will have the opportunity to challenge the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1001 - Level 1) certification and NFPA 470 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations training.  Training will also include Advanced First Aid and HCP CPR, Occupational Health and Safety Awareness, and Career Counselling.

Students will be required to commit one evening of each week to training at the Fire Hall, along with some full day Saturday training sessions. The program is open to students in Grade 11 or 12 in September each year. There are only 12 spots available in the program. Students must have HCS 3000 - Workplace Safety Systems complete prior to acceptance in the program (also available through FSD Summer School), so students are encouraged to complete this course in advance; it is recommended that students are enrolled in Biology 20, Biology 30, and/or Sports Sciences. Review additional details about the program and pre-requisites here

Applications are now open for the 2026-2027 school year! Apply by 12:00pm (noon) Monday, September 28, 2026. All applicants must attend the FESP open house event on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at 6:30 pm, held at the High River Fire Hall.  Visit the application website here.
