FSD Students have Skills

For Foothills School Division students, the Skills Canada Competitions are more than a competition, it’s a chance to showcase their talents, explore future careers, and see where their learning can take them.

Held May 6–7, 2026, at the Edmonton EXPO Centre, 21 FSD students joined secondary students from across Alberta to compete in the Provincial Skills Canada Competition. During these contests of skills trades and technologies, each student focuses on a specific area and is challenged to complete hands-on projects designed by industry professionals, mirroring real-world expectations in their chosen field.

Participating in Skills at the provincial level is earned, and this kind of opportunity highlights the strength of Career and Technology Education across our schools. From baking and culinary arts to carpentry, robotics, and design, students demonstrate not only technical ability, but also creativity, problem solving, and perseverance under pressure.

Beyond the competition, students connect directly with their chosen industry, peers who share the same interests and talents, and showcase their skills with their future employers and colleagues who have designed the challenges.  This connection gives students valuable insight into career pathways and the expectations of their future fields.

For many FSD students, Skills Canada is a defining experience—building confidence, strengthening skills, and opening doors to what comes next.

Experiences like Skills Canada Alberta highlight what’s possible when students are given meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities. Across Foothills School Division, students are building skills, discovering passions, and stepping confidently toward their future—and events like this give them the stage to shine.

Congratulations to all our skilled competitors:
